Using chiropractic for wellness care is probably one of the most misunderstood uses of chiropractic. The questions and anwers below will shed some light on some of the questions you may have had. If you ever have more questions, please feel free to contact our office by phone or email. Our contact information is on the bottom left of every page just below the menu.
“Why should I see a chiropractor if I’m feeling okay?”
This is a very common question that a lot of people ask when told about chiropractic wellness care. Preventive maintenance for your spine and your whole body is just like preventive maintenance for your car or your teeth. It is always more cost effective in the long run to prevent problems than deal with them after they become really big. Also, you suffer from pain and symptoms much less.
“How often should I go for chiropractic wellness visits?”
You are at this point either finished with a treatment program for a specific injury or you are one of the really informed people who are choosing chiropractic for wellness care before any pain occurs. Either way, your frequency of care is up to you at this point. However, your chiropractor will always recommend the optimal treatment to maintain your progress and support your daily activities.
Your chiropractor’s recommendation will also be based on your lifestyle. If you never exercise and work at a high-stress job behind a desk all day or are a laborer who abuses their body 10-12 hours a day, your chiropractor will recommend a higher treatment frequency. If you eat a balanced, organic diet, incorporate low-stress physical activity into your daily routine, do not take any medications, and have a low-stress lifestyle, then your chiropractor will recommend a lower treatment frequency.
“What is the difference between chiropractic wellness care and chiropractic care for injuries?”
Though some of the treatments for both types of care may be the same, the treatment goals are definitely different. When you come to us for an injury or pain, the first objective is to get you out of pain and then correct some specific problems that you developed over the years that led to the injury or pain.
When you come to us for wellness care, we take into consideration all aspects of your life, including any physical, chemical, and emotional stress that you are putting on your body or have put on your body throughout the years. By returning balance to the whole body, we allow your body to express itself at an infinitely higher potential.
“Is all I need a periodic adjustment to be well?”
The answer is a most definite no. The chiropractic adjustment is just the cornerstone of the chiropractic wellness lifestyle. That is why we offer other products and services in our office such as functional testing, custom orthotics, nutritional counseling and supplementation so that you can come to one place for all the anwers to your wellness questions. We also promise that if there is something that we feel you need that we do not provide, we will refer you to one of our wellness colleagues to help you.
“Why should I see a chiropractor for wellness care when I get annual checkups at a medical doctor’s office?”
Annual medical checkups are absolutely necessary. You will get a thorough internal physical at a medical doctor’s office that you will not get at most chiropractor’s offices. A chiropractic doctor, though, sees you on a much more regular basis, performs more hands-on therapy, and therefore is more capable of noticing subtle changes in your body. However, the best way to explain the difference between medical care and chiropractic care is by comparing both doctors to school tutors. Medical doctors are really good at getting your health grade from an F (failing) to a D (barely passing). Chiropractic doctors are really good at getting your health grade from a D (barely passing) to a B (above average). The ony person that can get your health grade to an A (excellent) is you.
