Energy Drinks: How Much Is Too Much?
Posted by Al Jameson on Mar 23, 2010 in Nutrition | 0 comments | 321 viewsI was interviewed recently by 39 News regarding my take on energy drinks. As with all other packaged foods, knowing how to decipher a food label will answer many questions.
We all lead busy lives, but do we always reach for the right things?
Coffee, energy drinks, even energy shots are full of caffeine, among other things.
“The most important thing to remember with energy drinks is why you’re taking them. What’s causing the lack of energy to begin with? That’s why people typically go to caffeine or an energy drink to begin wth because something is out of balance or something is missing,” said Dr. Al Jameson.
Jameson is a chiropractor and nutritionist, who sits on the advisory board for Total Body magazine.
He says everybody is different and everybody reacts differently to high levels of sugar, vitamins or caffeine.
“Caffeine will pretty much let you know when you’re taking in too much, but sometimes people don’t realize how long before it starts affecting them,” said Jameson.
In fact, Jameson says your best bet is to talk to a nutritionist or a wellness expert about what’s right for you.
“The only way to really know what your body needs is to get tested properly and speak to someone who is versed in those things and can figure out exactly what your body needs,” he said.
Still, he says use common sense and whatever you drink, don’t over-do it.
“Everything’s fine in moderation,” he said. “Just become an expert on how to read labels and that’s the most important thing.”
